On recently updated Windows 10 machines we're seeing crashes when trying to add private packages with git URLs. You won't have working keys so the expected result would be an authorization error.

What we're getting on multiple machines is instead. First I'd like to know whether this reproduces for more people. It may also make sense for Julia to try to workaround this, e. First step should be to upgrade libssh2 to version 1. Update: This has been fixed in julia1. If you don't want to run a release candidate you can copy libssh2. The file lives in the bin directory. This most likely affects everyone with sufficiently updated Windows 10 and all versions of Julia from 0.

Let's get some input from our resident Windows trivia champ vtjnash , as well as our MbedTLS wizard quinnj. Do not update your Windows. Potential solutions: Upgrading libssh2 to 1. Building with mbedTLS as crypto backend which is already used on Linux and Mac is effective in local testing, at least for use with ssh keys. The main problem with that patch is that the code path that solves this problem doesn't work on Windows 7 and that the choice is made at build time. Considering how popular and widely used SSH is, it is surprising that there are not too many good open source SSH libraries. Given these constraints, the list of suitable libraries quickly narrowed down to SSH. NET and libssh2. NET is MIT-licensed and quite popular, but the library does not seem to be particularly well-maintained anymore: At libssj2 time earlythe last commit on Github was 5 months old libssh2 dll windows 10 the last release happened 3 years ago.

For a security-sensitive function like SSH, I prefer to rely on a library for which I can be reasonably sure that security issues are going to be fixed in time — libseh2 SSH. NET did not seem like that project to me. Libssh2 is written in plain C and runs on many platforms.
